College Challenge Courses: English

Studying EnglishEnglish Usage and Expression

It is not surprising that English college challenge courses vary so much from school to school.

The reason for this is that the goal of an English college challenge course is to enable the individual to read and write at a level consistent with second semester full-time students attending his/her college of choice. This tailoring of course content to college of choice requirements as well as student skill level is unique to Linda Christas.

In addition, completing a Linda Christas English college challenge course normally ensures that a student will not be placed in an English usage program by his/her college of choice.

The Linda Christas English Usage and Expression course, as with all of the School's other courses, begins with an evaluation of the level of expertise currently enjoyed by the student. This is done through a series of Linda Christas designed English competency tests presented online at the individual's own pace. These tests are necessary to gauge approximately how well an individual's skills compare with those expected by a second semester English instructor at the student's college of choice.

In addition to measuring overall skill level in the subject, the Linda Christas competency evaluation also tells the credentialed instructor in a precise way where the student's strengths and weaknesses lay. With this information, the instructor is able to fine-tune the English Usage and Expression offering, so that time is not squandered reviewing material that has been previously mastered.

In addition to the subject matter itself, a Linda Christas college challenge course instructor discusses, as appropriate, the logistics of taking a college level challenge examination. This allows the student to approach his/her specific college's challenge examination with confidence.

Linda Christas also guarantees that a student having successfully completed the English Usage and Expression course will be able to successfully navigate any American college's first semester English usage challenge examination. (Should a student fail to do so, Linda Christas will assign a credentialed teacher at no charge to the student until the desired level of expertise is achieved.)

Note: All Linda Christas English College Challenge courses assume that the student has successfully completed at least a high school junior year English curriculum either through Linda Christas or through another accredited institution with a grade of B or better.

Literature StudentEnglish Literature and Expression

As the name implies, the Linda Christas English Literature and Expression delivers a series of exercises and readings that will enable the student to read, and discuss English literature at a level appropriate for college level work.

This course includes studying the structures and methods used by successful authors working within a variety of genres.

English language authors employ a wide array of techniques to deliver messages in powerful ways. Styles vary radically. The Linda Christas English Literature and Expression course scans and analyzes the horizon of English literature, giving the individual an elevated perspective regarding this most important area of study.

In addition to the subject matter itself, the Linda Christas instructor discusses, as appropriate, the logistics of taking a college level challenge examination, if that is the goal of the student. This allows the individual to approach his/her specific college's challenge examination with confidence.

Linda Christas guarantees that a student having successfully completed the English Literature and Expression course will be able to successfully navigate any American college's first semester English Literature survey challenge examination.

The Linda Christas College Challenge Courses: English may be used to prepare for the College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) English examination.
