College Counseling and Supplementary English Language Program
The College Counseling and Supplementary English Language Program provides high school students with college Dean level assistance the purpose of which is to enable the understanding of the workings of college admissions and financial aid offices. The Program provides objective college level counseling regarding choice of college (performance criteria not found in national college ranking magazines), college major (strong and weak departments within the colleges themselves), and college-specific strategies for being accepted by first-choice institutions with a reasonable financial package that will allow the student to complete his/her degree. (Notes: High school students who are thus counseled are accepted by their first choice college much more often (by a factor of four) than those who do not have access to this kind of concentrated expertise. Unfortunately, public school counseling offices are faced with situations that make it unlikely or impossible for them to properly assist students in making critical college level decisions. For example, student to counselor ratios in United States public schools range from 350 to 1 up to 1900 to 1. In addition, public high school counselors are frequently charged with duties that prevent them from mastering the personalities of the 3200 colleges and universities in America (2500 of which are four-year institutions). The result of this lack of counseling is that American students who begin four year college programs drop out 52% of the time.)
The Extended College Counseling and Supplementary English Language Program also provides, as the name would suggest, additional services for students not currently in their senior year of high school when enrolled.
In our fast paced society, all too often parents do not have the resources to consistently provide guidance to their children in order for them to be able to avoid academic, social and extracurricular missteps that can and do damage future prospects. Such mistakes often prevent otherwise talented children from achieving what, if not for these unfortunate errors, would have been possible in terms of education and career. (So many individuals look back on their lives and wonder, IF ONLY. The purpose of this Linda Christas program is to empower individuals, both parents and students, to avoid these kinds of after the fact speculations. Said differently in American idiom, "Let's get it right the first time.")
Finally, during the term of the Extended College Counseling and English Language Program, a state credentialed English instructor is assigned to the student for the purpose of honing the student's reading, writing and oral communication skills. Through guided reading, the Program serves as an excellent preparatory tool for higher level study or the work world. (Linda Christas provides this additional service in order to support the position that if a student will read well constructed literature for pleasure during the middle school and high school years; practice writing standard English related to that reading, and learn to produce integrated analyses from that reading, the chances of the student reaping life's academic and financial rewards later on are greatly enhanced. Success in today's academic and work environments seem almost always to depend on an individual's ability to read, write and speak effectively using dynamic standard English.)
